SUMMARY:Here Comes the Sun by Gill Ansty. A 90 Minute General Yoga Session
DESCRIPTION:On Line Zoom\n\n\n\n£5.00 for members £7.50 for non members.\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n£5.00 for the zoom recording \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nHere Comes the Sun\n\n\n\nA gentle asana practise exploring twist and turns and how to use them to become stabilised and balanced\, incorporating the breathing techniques that work in harmony with your inner sun and fire. \n\n\n\nThis practise will focus on applying the appropriate pranayama and breathing techniques to enhance our experience and connection with twists.  \n\n\n\nLearning to move around our own internal sun and enable our own inner light and fire to burn more brightly. \n\n\n\nLeading us gently to a place of relaxation. \n\n\n\nI am a trustee for YHET\, I first discovered The Yoga for Health Foundation (YHF) many years ago in the late 1990s. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nHaving walked into my first class with a YHF teacher and found a place that I felt was my home\, I was encouraged by my teacher to go there and train. At Ickwell bury I trained for my Remedial and General certificates. And was lucky enough to be there when its remedial courses were thriving and able to gain so much knowledge and experience from the people there. I was also\, sadly\, at the last meeting there\, on the evening the Bury closed. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nOver the years I have done other trainings\, I am a Sadhana Mala Yoga Therapist having completed the course with Ranju Roy and Dave Charlton (Viniyoga) and have a British Wheel accreditation cert and am CNHC registered. \n\n\n\nI teach Zoom classes\, teach 121\, and since Covid have also gone back to teaching in “real life”. And with my husband (a British Wheel teacher)\, have organised and taught on many retreats\, in England and abroad\, under our name of Canoe yoga. \n\n\n\nOver the years I have taught yoga in many places including\, The MS Centre in Wendover Bucks\, and the Recovery College at the Mental Health Hospital\, the Whiteleaf Centre in Aylesbury Bucks\, and classes through Breathe Easy\, for the British Lung Foundation\, for those with COPD and breathing difficulty. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThis event is offered to all members of the Yoga for Health and Education Trust (YHET). For further information please email events@yhet.org.uk. Places on this workshop are limited and Registration closes at 7.00pm on 25th February. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nYou will require Zoom set up on your PC\, tablet or Ipad prior to the session. Please contact us if you need any assistance to do this. Mobile phones are not suitable for these online sessions as the screen is too small.

SUMMARY:SHOULDERS - EXPLORING THE FUNCTIONAL AND ENERGETIC RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PAIN\, STABILITY AND EASE\,
DESCRIPTION:(dukha\, sthira\, sukha) – Led by Liz Williams\n\n\n\nThis a Free event – please purchase a ticket for the recording.\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nLiz has studied and taught yoga and bodywork for over 35 years. She works regularly with stroke survivors and others to improve functional independence and confidence. Since the late 1990s Liz studied with the late Dr M V Bhole\, both in Europe and in India\, prior to which she worked with many other teachers from various yoga traditions\, including “viniyoga” with Sri T K V Desikachar and his principal students. With this combination of ancient tradition\, modern research and experience\, Liz promotes “self-help” techniques for stress-release\, body awareness and mindfulness. Her aim is to help individuals understand how bodies and minds function in order to improve their health\, mobility and well-being. Through exploration and curiosity\, Liz ensures that everyone learns through doing what they can\, and not being frustrated by what they can’t! This is particularly relevant when people have limitations with movement\, co-ordination or concentration as a result of genetic and other conditions or trauma of any kind such as strokes\, accidents and operations.  \n\n\n\nShoulders can be problematical\, especially as we get older!  They might ache\, feel tight or collapse. There may be pain in the neck or elsewhere.  Perhaps they a reflection of your life – put upon\, trying to hold everything together – or perhaps just neglected.  \n\n\n\nShoulders are fundamental to our support structure – all day\, every day.  As well as help  reduce pain (dukha) and move and rest with greater stability and ease (sthira sukha) our Yoga practice can take us into the energetic and elemental supports of our existence.  \n\n\n\nWith the subtle energetic and elemental practices\, Yoga helps locate what is causing pain and difficulty and gain more ease and stability\, on and off the mat.  In this session\, with a focus on shoulders\, you will be guided towards deeper body and breathing awareness.  Each posture can tell you more – if you’re curious enough!   \n\n\n\nNOTE: The pace will be slow in order to allow time for experiential awareness. You will need your usual kit plus a firm chair\, blocks\, cushions. If possible\, be near a wall or door (not essential).  \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThis event is offered to all members of the Yoga for Health and Education Trust (YHET) and the cost of this event will be borne by the Trust. For further information please email events@yhet.org.uk. Non members are welcome to join us for a free taster session. Places on this workshop are limited and Registration closes at 7.00pm on 2nd November. \n\n\n\nYou will require Zoom set up on your PC\, tablet or Ipad prior to the session. SUMMARY:Yoga and common conditions - harnessing its healing power wisely - led by Kerry Francis.
DESCRIPTION:Special focus event – £5.00 for the zoom recording.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nABOUT KERRY\n\n\n\nEXPERIENCED THERAPIST OFFERING HOLISTIC AND INTEGRATED THERAPY. 25 YEARS DEDICATED TO HEALING. \n\n\n\nFrom the beginning of my time studying physiotherapy at university I felt a strong sense that there was more to health and healthcare than the traditional western medical model. This sense was clarified by the more patients I saw\, especially those with chronic (long-term) or more complex problems.. \n\n\n\nThrough the past 25 years\, I’ve been on a path to further understand the human body\, wellbeing and health.  I have always had a keen insight into the evolving landscape of healthcare and deeply value the importance of acknowledging the advances of treatment in the conventional medical medicine as well as acknowledging the effects of it.   \n\n\n\nMy journey led me to discover Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy – a scientifically supported approach that empowers the body’s inherent ability to heal. This gentle yet powerful therapy has become the mainstay of my practice. Through working as a Biodynamic Cranio practitioner I can offer the care and support to connect to health and wellbeing essential for healing. \n\n\n\nOn a personal note\, being a parent to my two children has provided me with valuable insights into the joys and challenges of parenthood\, as well as an understanding of the struggles faced by parents and children in today’s world. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nYoga has the potential to be a profoundly healing practice\, but when it comes to certain medical conditions or injuries\, not all practices are appropriate or sometimes a simple modification can be of significant help. \n\n\n\nIn these sessions we’ll explore common conditions\, when and how to adapt or modify practices\, and where they may unintentionally cause harm. We will also revisit key anatomy and physiology to help you make informed\, decisions for safer\, more effective yoga teaching and practice. \n\n\n\nThere will be a lunch break and comfort breaks throughout the day. \n\n\n\nWe will introduce the red\, orange\, and green flag system — a simple\, practical framework to help you recognise when yoga is likely to be beneficial (green)\, when caution and modification are needed (orange)\, and when yoga may be unsafe or contraindicated without specialist guidance (red). \n\n\n\nRun by physiotherapist and yoga teacher Kerry Francis these sessions are ideal for yoga teachers\, therapists\, and experienced practitioners who want to teach and practise in a safer\, more aware\, and more trauma-informed way. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nKerry Francis\, BSc (Hons) Phys\, HCPC\, BCST \n\n\n\nIntegrative Health Practitioner \n\n\n\nPhysiotherapist | Craniosacral Therapist | Yoga Teacher \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nNOTE: The pace will be slow in order to allow time for experiential awareness. SUMMARY:Ajapa Japa Meditation led by Jane Cluley online via Zoom - please purchase a ticket for the recording.
DESCRIPTION:I came to yoga in 1991 when I was fortunate to discover the Bury and the Yoga for Health Foundation. \n\n\n\nJane has used yoga as a journey of self-discovery and healing since her university days at Reading\, practising with a wide variety of teachers. She has been teaching since 1988 and is passionate about including all aspects of yoga and ancient wisdom in ways accessible to everyone and every body. \n\n\n\nShe believes that her students are her greatest teachers and that she can learn from each and every one of them by observing and listening. She believes the cornerstone of yoga is ‘awareness’ and that applying this throughout practice and life we can change our physiology and thinking mind for the better. \n\n\n\nKey influences on my practice are Satyananda Yoga\, Structural and Ayurvedic Yoga Therapy\, Vinyasa\, Yin\, and Mindfulness. Jane has trained dozens of yoga teachers\, taught BWY Foundation Courses in Yorkshire since 2004\, offers other in-depth independent study\, workshops\, yoga retreats\, yoga holidays and since 2020 online learning. \n\n\n\nFor many years Jane regularly visited India as part of her personal journey\, staying in ashrams and attended the awe inspiring 2001 Kumbh Mela at Allahabad. She received her spiritual name\, Jayadhara\, in 1996 at the Bihar School of Yoga\, Munger. She feels that she is able to draw on many of these experiences to enhance her teaching and bring the ancient yoga traditions to life. \n\n\n\nNOTE: The pace will be slow in order to allow time for experiential awareness. You will need your usual kit plus a firm chair\, blocks\, cushions. If possible\, be near a wall or door (not essential).  \n\n\n\nAjapa Japa Meditation – 22 July 2025 \n\n\n\nMeditation is a valuable tool to help us ideal with everyday life in a more balanced way. The class will focus on the Satyananda Practice of ‘Ajapa Japa’ using the breath\, visualisation and So-ham mantra to anchor the awareness in the present moment and help to purify the pranic body.  \n\n\n\nThis event is offered to all members of the Yoga for Health and Education Trust (YHET) and the cost of this event will be borne by the Trust. SUMMARY:Gentle Yoga - led by Veronica Lafferty. This a Free event - please purchase a ticket for the recording.
DESCRIPTION:I came to yoga in 1991 when I was fortunate to discover the Bury and the Yoga for Health Foundation. \n\n\n\nI lived in Bedford at the time\,  and the Bury\,  located in the village of Ickwell was only a fifteen minute drive from my home.  The people\, buildings and grounds became a sanctuary for me\, and continues to be so to this day. \n\n\n\nThrough the YFHF I did my foundation TT in 1995\,  and embracing the Foundation’s philosophy of gentle yoga for all I continue to apply it in each of my classes to this day.  Progressing from this TT\,  I was able to study further with other like minded teachers both at home and abroad  opening up a universe of yoga practice to me.   \n\n\n\nEnjoying time with other yogis and sharing this subject with them is where we learn and grow.  Yoga is definitely for sharing with everyone. \n\n\n\nThe intention of this practice from the physical view point is to bring the experience of sequencing  sensitive fluid movements through the body\, creating a tension free spine\,  and releasing generally other joints and muscles\, developing the sensation of softness\, comfort and relaxation wherever possible.  \n\n\n\nSimple yogic breathing will be integrated throughout the practice and used to enhance the  fluid movement\, displaying  how the breath and the body are unquestionably linked together. \n\n\n\nRelaxation becomes a natural process of this practice and will be included at the beginning\, during and at the end.  \n\n\n\nThis will be suitable for anyone who enjoys a slow paced practice.  There are no expectations as we will work according to our comfort level in the moment. SUMMARY:Pausing to Process - led by Martine Harvey. This a Free event - please purchase a ticket for the recording.
DESCRIPTION:Martine’s first encounter with Yoga was through a book she found as a child and she began copying some of the poses. Later\, while at university\, she started taking regular Yoga and Meditation classes and then trained to teach yoga\, passing her 500 hour teacher qualification in 2000. While teaching Yoga\, she then studied sports massage with the London School of Sports Massage which developed her understanding of anatomy. While living in the US for several years she ran regular Yoga sessions while training in\, and practicing\, Cranial Sacral Therapy and Optimal Breathing. She also took advantage of the extensive Yoga network and attended many Yoga classes and retreats. Martine then held regular Yoga classes in the UK and has worked with the Yoga for Health and Education Trust providing workshops on many different areas of Yoga.Martine has been practising Yoga for 25 years and has integrated her experiences into her Yoga sessions\, including more recently\, her training in both Somatic movement and Gentle Somatic Yoga. She is passionate about making Yoga accessible to all and about ways to integrate Yoga into daily life. Martine is a strong advocate for the benefits of Yoga\, having improved her own  \n\n\n\nThis yoga session will focus on the importance of giving the body-mind time to process movements and experiences. We will address patterns of tension in the body and look to develop ease and comfort with these patterns while working with gentle movements. Gentle Somatic Yoga allows three stress reflexes to be repatterned\, so we can process our past experiences and make choice points about what feels comfortable. By slowing down and allowing pauses\, we can give the nervous system the time it needs to process new information and learn from the contrast of tension versus relaxation. \n\n\n\nWe will work with the spine\, hips and finally the shoulders to bring ease into the body-mind. You will need a yoga strap\, a block and a blanket\, as well as your usual props. SUMMARY:CANCELLED - WILL BE RESHEDULED – EXPLORING THE FUNCTIONAL AND ENERGETIC RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PAIN\, STABILITY AND EASE (dukha\, sthira\, sukha) - led by Liz Williams This a Free event - please purchase a ticket for the recording.
DESCRIPTION:Liz has studied and taught yoga and bodywork for over 35 years. SUMMARY:Creating a Space for Pranayama - Expanding Awareness with the Water Element - led by Liz Williams
DESCRIPTION:Liz has studied and taught yoga and bodywork for over 35 years. \n\n\n\nIn order to experience the pranic body and subtle energies in our yoga practice\, firstly we have to remove the blockages in our physical\, emotional and mental bodies (kosas) that inevitably get in the way.  Yogasana are not “performed” as in dynamic physical practice but are used in a specific way as a means of finding these blocks and then minimising or releasing them.   \n\n\n\nWe are elemental bodies – earth\, water\, fire\, air – often with one element more prominent than the others.  This might cause heaviness\, stiffness\, restlessness or disembodiment.  Water was regarded as the essential element that needed to flow continuously in order that everything else could move.  It’s not just about our fluid intake although that too is essential for metabolic function and survival.  Water\, as an elemental force\, relates to creation – procreation\, inspiration\, curiosity. \n\n\n\nThe subtle energies and our pranic body gradually reveal themselves because the water element (ap) dissolves the residues of life events that are stored in the physical\, mental and emotional bodies.  This opens us to clarity\, space and freedom. \n\n\n\nSome of the practices will require props (according to personal need) in order to gain the necessary sthira sukha (steadiness and ease) for asana.  The pace will be slow in order to allow experiential awareness.  This can be quite challenging because of habit patterns\, personality and prior experience with yoga\, exercise\, illness and life in general!!   \n\n\n\nAre you up for the challenge?  Ready to experience yourself in a different way? \n\n\n\nAccessible options will be provided throughout the workshop to ensure everyone can participate comfortably. Please have the following props available for the practices: cushions\, blocks\, blankets\, bolsters\, or any other items that support comfort in a variety of positions in movement and stillness. \n\n\n\nThis event is offered to all members of the Yoga for Health and Education Trust (YHET) and the cost of this event will be borne by the Trust. For further information please email events@yhet.org.uk. Non members are welcome to join us for a free taster session. Places on this workshop are limited and Registration closes at 7.00pm on 28th February. \n\n\n\nYou will require Zoom set up on your PC\, tablet or Ipad prior to the session. Please contact us if you need any assistance to do this. Mobile phones are not suitable for these online sessions as the screen is too small.

SUMMARY:Gentle Yoga Session: 'Less is More' led by Monika Mathieu
DESCRIPTION:Monika completed her general teacher training with the Yoga for Health Foundation and also obtained their Remedial certificate in 2003. While teaching all levels of abilities\, she has become more and more aware how working at a pace where we can feel Yoga from the outside in and from the inside out\, to work in the here and now within our own capability is working in a holistic way. \n\n\n\nStudying with the Devon School of Yoga and completing her Postgraduate Yoga Therapy training in 2017 has in so many ways confirmed to Monika how Body-Mind and Mind-Body are in constant communication and how wellbeing\, discomfort and also pain are the language of the soul… In order to understand that language we have to learn how to listen… which is difficult when we are rushing from posture to posture or situation to situation without absorbing the feeling. \n\n\n\nIn this session Monika invites you to practice and explore gentle postures you probably all know in a way they should always be practiced as if you are doing the posture for the very first time… allowing our inner wisdom to reveal itself in a way we can understand. \n\n\n\nWe will start with Tadasana and if you need support have a chair or stand against the wall. Please note any health issues or difficulty getting onto the floor Supine or Semi Supine when you register. For this session you will need a yoga mat and any blocks or props you like to use. \n\n\n\nThis event is offered to all members of the Yoga for Health and Education Trust (YHET) and the cost of this event will be borne by the Trust. For further information please email admin@yhet.org.uk. Non members are welcome to join us for a free taster session. SUMMARY:Christmas Meditation 2024 led by Alison Francis
DESCRIPTION:Alison has practised yoga since her early 20s. She was taking classes with Ellen Lee when she decided to train to teach. Her training was at Ickwell Bury in 2000\, completing both the General and Therapeutic courses and the Ayurveda module taught by Bill Feeney. She retired from her career as a dance teacher in 2018 and subsequently became a Trustee of YHET. Alison has been organising events for YHET for more than 10 years. \n\n\n\nPlease join us at this very special time of the year to find some quiet and stillness. It certainly can become very hectic and all about consumption in our society now in the 21st century. We can feel bombarded by all the marketing that surrounds us. We can feel overwhelmed by the canned music everywhere we go and an almost enforced jollity coming at us from the radio\, the TV and social media by the society that we now live in. \n\n\n\nMeditation is one of the tools from our yoga tool box that we can use to come back to centre and discover an equilibrium again. \n\n\n\nYou might like to have a candle as a focus or some fairy lights. If so\, please set that up at home before you join. \n\n\n\nWe will listen to some inspirational words. We will slow down and enjoy our community by coming together without judgement to breathe together. Physically and mentally grounding. Coming back to centre. Finding our sense of balance. \n\n\n\nMaybe even discovering blissful moments of stillness. \n\n\n\nThis event is offered to all members of the Yoga for Health and Education Trust (YHET) and the cost of this event will be borne by the Trust. For further information please email admin@yhet.org.uk. Non members are welcome to join us for a free taster session. Places on this event are limited and Registration closes at Noon on 22nd December. \n\n\n\nYou will require Zoom set up on your PC\, tablet or Ipad prior to the session. SUMMARY:"Yoga ABC" session led by Jane Cluely (Jayadhara)
DESCRIPTION:Jane has used yoga as a journey of self-discovery and healing since her university days at Reading\, practising with a wide variety of teachers. She has been teaching since 1988 and is passionate about including all aspects of yoga and ancient wisdom in ways accessible to everyone and every body. She believes that her students are her greatest teachers and that she can learn from each and every one of them by observing and listening. \n\n\n\nAwareness\, Breath and Connection are key tools in our yoga practice and during this session we will explore these through our practice which will include asana\, pranayama\, mudra\, bandha and meditation. This session will draw on teachings from Satyananda Yoga and be inclusive to a range of abilities and experiences. \n\n\n\nFor this session you will need a yoga mat and any props you may find useful and warm clothing or a blanket for the meditation. \n\n\n\nThis event is offered to all members of the Yoga for Health and Education Trust (YHET) and the cost of this event will be borne by the Trust. For further information please email admin@yhet.org.uk. Non members are welcome to join us for a free taster session. DESCRIPTION:David has been enjoying the wonders of Yoga for many years. \n\n\n\n“My journey began over 30 years ago when I attended a Meditation session. Its effect was profound. I became happier\, calmer and serene. This led me to Yoga Classes. Again the effect was transformational and my whole lifestyle began to blossom and grow.During my travels around the world and especially in India\, I experienced many different types of yoga from the very strong to the soothingly gentle. SUMMARY:Yoga in Action: Teachings from the Bhagavad Gita on Karma Yoga led by Sarah Ryan: Part 2 online via Zoom
DESCRIPTION:Sarah has loved\, studied and practised yoga for 50 years. She has been a teacher and teacher trainer for both the British Wheel and\, having been appointed by TKV Desikachar in 2006\, the Krishnamacharya Yoga and Healing Foundation. She is a Yoga Therapist and also teaches Vedic chanting. \n\n\n\nSarah has been very fortunate to study in the Viniyoga tradition\, which opened up Vedic chanting and mantra to Westerners in the 1970s and ’80s. She continues her studies with Menaka and Kausthub Desikachar\, wife and son of TKV Desikachar who sadly died in 2016. \n\n\n\nThe Bhagavad Gita gives us many wonderful teachings on Yoga\, and in an age when we are all so busy with different activities that we often feel we have hardly any time for ourselves\, its message of Karma Yoga\, on how to spiritualise action\, is especially relevant and useful. We shall look at the teachings of two and a half thousand years ago\, and apply them to our own lives. Sarah has three much-loved translations of the Gita\, by Juan Mascaro\, Eknath Easwaran and Winthrop Sargeant\, and they have all assisted in her understanding of this text\, but her main thanks go to her three teachers in the Viniyoga tradition\, Kaustubha Desikachar\, TKV Desikachar\, and Paul Harvey. \n\n\n\nIn Part 2 of this workshop Sarah will cover karma yoga and dharma and dharma and svadharma. There will be a 30 minute break during this session from 3.30-4.00PM. \n\n\n\nIt would be helpful to have a copy of the Gita to hand. If you don’t already have a copy and would like to purchase one\, Sarah recommends Winthrop Sargeant for serious study\, but Juan Mascaro’s Penguin Classics translation is very good\, as is Eknath Easwaran’s. You will also need a notepad and pen to take notes. Sarah has provided a handout on Karma Yoga for use during the workshop which you can download here. \n\n\n\nThe workshop will not include asana practice\, but there will be some meditation. \n\n\n\nThis Special Focus Workshop is offered to all members of the Yoga for Health and Education Trust (YHET) and the cost of this event will be borne by the Trust. Non-members are welcome to join us for a taster session. This workshop will qualify as Continuous Professional Development (CPD) for yoga teachers and a Certificate is available on request. If you have any queries please email us at admin@yhet.org.uk. \n\n\n\nPlaces on this event are limited and Registration closes on 8th November.
